Banksy Vs Bristol Museum

Finally managed to get my arse over to the Banksy show in Bristol the other day. The doors opened at 10am, we got there around 9:45 and the queue was already immense, this is what we saw as we turned the corner…

If this wasn’t bad enough we had to join another huge queue just so we could join this queue! This show has been on for weeks now and has been the same every single day which to me is amazing. You can say what you want about Banksy but as I stood around waiting for 2.5 hours to get in, I saw every walk of life and every age of person in that queue. Everything from babies to pensioners, rich and poor, all interested, all excited. Goes to show that he’s taken an art form that was once totally associated with degeneration, crime and mindless vandalism and made it accessible, interesting and a little more acceptable. I’m not saying this is the case for everyone, there will always be opposition, but when I stood beside a woman who must have been in her late 70’s at the youngest and saw the smile on her face and heard her chuckle constantly as she looked at the pieces inside, it proves that not only is he doing something right for a lot of people, he’s still at the top of his game.
